The ASETS Youth program has been in existence for over 10 (ten) years and was introduced by the Federation of Newfoundland Indians under the AHRDA program. This program has been successful in improving employability skills of Aboriginal youth that will assist them to succeed in the workforce. Additionally, students are provided with tools that will help them advance their education.
Councillors of each of the nine (9) wards partner with local business owners and organizations to find meaningful summer work experience for successful applicants. In the past, students have worked as Tour Guides, Administrative Assistants and Youth Facilitators.
To be eligible for summer employment through the ASETS Youth Program, a student must be:
- Between the ages of 15 and 29
- A full time student before the summer and returning to full time studies in the fall
- An aboriginal person. Applicants are asked to indicate on their cover letter which band or organization they are a member of.
