Burgeo Mawio’mi

The Burgeo Band of Indians is pleased to host its first Mawio,mi (Gathering) to take place at Sandbanks Provincial Park on the 18th of August starting at 9am.

We encourage all First Nations peoples to attend this event. We also invite the general public to experience the many traditions and customs of the Mi’kmaq people.

Following is a list of events planned for the day.

  • 9:00am Opening remarks (First Sand)
    • Pray
    • Smudge
    • Sacred Fire
    • Pray Ties
  • 10:00am Pipe ceremony (First Beach)
  • 11:00am Water Ceremony (First Beach)
  • 12:00pm Story telling (Stage Area)
  • 1:00pm Wampum belt demonstration (Stage Area)
  • 2:00pm Blanket exercise (Stage Area)
  • 3:00pm Big Drum/Dancing (Stage Area)
  • 5:00pm Everyone is invited to the Parish Hall for a feast of Moose Soup and a verity of deserts at no cost.Please bring along a chair for the day and learn about our culture. Sandwiches and refreshments will be provided for lunch. This is a drug and alcohol-free event.
