Moss Bag Sewing Workshop
April 30 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

The Qalipu First Nation Health and Wellness team is offering a Moss Bag Sewing Workshop! A moss bag is a traditional Indigenous baby carrier that has been used for centuries. It keeps babies warm and snug, simulating a womb-like environment. Historically, moss bags were lined with moss, which acted as a diaper due to its antiseptic and absorbent properties, keeping babies dry and preventing rashes. Today, moss bags are made with soft inner material and breathable outer fabric, with leather lacing used to close the bag in the front.
This workshop will take place in the Community Room at the Qalipu First Nation Office (1 Church Street, Corner Brook), where participants will complete their projects using sewing machines. The session will be led virtually by Knowledge Keeper Nina Kent.
🔹 Please note: Completing the form does not guarantee a spot in the workshop. Spaces are limited, and registrations will be confirmed via email by a Qalipu First Nation team member.
