Premier Furey announced support for projects tied to Newfoundland & Labradors Come Home 2022 earlier this morning of March 11, 2022 at Corner Brook City Hall. Through the provinces Come Home 2022 Cultural Economic Development Program supports, Qalipu First Nation (QFN) Department of Culture, Tourism, and Community Development [Experience Qalipu] will be showcasing their Mi’kmaw culture, ceremony, and history during events across Ktaqmkuk [Newfoundland] throughout the months of June to October!
Qalipu Come Home 2022 Events will take place across three regions, Central, Bay of Islands and Bay St. George. Each event will consist of a variety of activities that will span the length of a day and provide the most positive experience for all involved! Hosting regions will keep traditions and Mi’kmaw culture at the core of its festivities and create a unique learning experience for all participants, indigenous and non-indigenous; an opportunity to learn, experience and take in the culture from knowledge keepers, community members, craftspeople, artists, dancers and drummers is key to reconciliation and understanding within our province.
Participants will have the opportunity to sample traditional foods, shop from local art and crafts people, medicine walk, learn some Mi’kmaw language, offer a prayer to the sacred fire or chat with a fire keeper, Elder or knowledge keeper, and hear the drumbeat that is the heart of our people and land. Stay tuned to Experience Qalipu and Qalipu First Nation Facebook Pages and our website for future announcements on events:
