Byelection Dates

  • Members of the St. George’s Electoral Ward can vote anytime during the voting window, starting, March 12, 2025, at 8:00am up until March 26 at 8:00pm.
  • Voting will take place either by telephone or by online access.
  • Members of the St. George’s Electoral Ward can view their eligibility as an elector via the voter’s list here – further information on the voter’s list can be found further below.

 

Call for Nominations Byelection

  • In accordance with the Custom Rules Governing Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band Elections [hyper link rules], nominations are invited for the position of Councilor for Electoral Ward St. George’s.
  • The call for nominations opened February 24, 2025 at 9:00am and will firmly close on March 4, 2025 at 2:00pm.

  • If you have any questions regarding the voters list or the QFN Election 2024, you can contact Electoral Officer Reisha Knott at 709-486-2427 or rknott@qalipu.ca.

 

Your Voter Package & Contact Updates

  • After confirming your eligibility as an elector on the voters list, you should then ensure you will receive your Voter Information Package, which includes the necessary details to access the electronic voting system, you should then verify that your mailing address and/or email address are up to date with your KINU Membership Profile.

 

To update your contact information, please complete one of the following before March 7, 2025:

  • By Telephone: Call the Indian Registration Administrator, Nancy O’Connell, at 709-634-4010 for assistance. Or the Electoral Officer, Reisha Knott, at 709-486-2427.
  • In-Person: Visit any Qalipu First Nation Band Office to verify or update your contact details.
  • Complete the Update Information Form: https://qalipu.ca/member-information-update-form/
  • Log in to your KINU membership profile and update your mailing and email address.

 

News Release: Voting Window Now Open

Members will begin receiving their voter information packages March 12 through March 20, 2025.

  • If you have an email listed on your KINU membership profile, your voter package will be emailed to you starting October 16 through to October 18.
  • Please remember to check your emails ‘junk’ folders if you don’t see it in the main inbox.
  • If you do not have an email address on KINU, your voting package will be sent to you via postage mail at the address listed on your KINU profile.

  • Members can vote anytime during the voting window, starting October 18th at 8:00am up until October 25 at 8:00pm.
  • Voting will take place either by phone or online.
  • Members seeking assistance before October 16th regarding the voter’s list, to update their Kinu profile, or reset their Kinu profile, can call, QFN Indian Registration Administrator, Nancy O’Connell at 709-634-4010, toll free at 1-855-263-6440, or email noconnell@qalipu.ca.

  • The call for nominations closed October 2nd, 2024, at 12:00pm after a ten (10) day period for nomination submissions that had opened September 23rd, 2024.
  • In accordance with the Custom Rules Governing Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation Band Elections, nominations were invited for the positions of Chief, Central Vice Chief, Western Vice Chief, and Councillor for Electoral Wards: Flat Bay, St. George’s, Stephenville, Port au Port, Benoit’s Cove, Corner Brook, Exploits, Glenwood, and Gander Bay.
