The Qalipu First Nation Department of Health and Wellness, under the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Support Specialist Team would like to remind and advise members to submit their medical referrals a minimum of 7-10 business days to arrange for pre-approved transportation and accommodations. Any late submissions may result in members paying for their transportation and accommodations up front with the option to request reimbursement after.

Qalipu First Nation is currently seeking a Member-at-Large to join their Education and Training Committee. This unique opportunity will give hands-on access and input into the current structure of our Education and Training Department and future outreach to help guide the work for our Post-Secondary Students through programs, training, and engagements.
The ideal candidate is a Band member living in the province with a background in an education related field and teaching of five years’ experience. If you are committed and want to contribute your knowledge as a volunteer on this committee, please see below for an Expression of Interest.

Experience Qalipu (EQ) of Qalipu First Nation (QFN) in partnership with Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority (DLRAA) and the Town of Deer Lake are pleased to announce and provide Indigenous Tourism Sense of Arrival to the airport and through the Humber River Trail System.
With $65,000 received in combination from Provincial and Federal Governments to support the incorporation of Indigenous awareness and tourism marketing at the Deer Lake Airport, funding will be purposed for:
“The partnership between Qalipu First Nation and DLRAA has been longstanding, and this project is another outcome of how working together can achieve great things”, said Tammy Priddle, President and CEO Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority. “The announcement today will provide an opportunity for travellers and people of this region to experience the strong Indigenous Tourism offering in our area every time they visit our regional airport,” said Ms. Priddle. She further commented, “In addition, the walking trail expansion will allow travellers, employees, tenants and people of the region to learn more about the Qalipu culture, connect with the beautiful surroundings and walk along the mighty Humber River.”
Band Manager of Qalipu First Nation, Keith Goulding concluded, “This partnership project provides us with an excellent opportunity to showcase our membership and welcome people to our traditional territory, Ktaqmkuk – Newfoundland.”

Qalipu First Nation, along with the Deer Lake Airport Authority will be providing a funding and partnership announcement regarding Indigenous Tourism Sense of Arrival initiative that will be implemented at the facility.
At 9:30am Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at the Deer Lake Regional Airport.
Supports have been provided for the installation of a Mi’kmaq art piece and Experience Qalipu marketing within the airport, as well as design work for the development of an Indigenous themed trail and outdoor space on Airport Authority Land. This trail will connect with the greater Deer Lake trail system, and the Town of Deer Lake who have been an integral partner in making this project happen.

Pre-registration is now open for the Swearing-in Ceremony of the 2021-2024 Chief and Council being held Sunday, November 21st beginning 1:00pm at the Greenwood Inn and Suites in Corner Brook.
Attendance in-person requires PRE-REGISTRATION: Friends and family who will be attending together can pre-register as a group for the purpose of capacity restrictions and social distanced assigned seating.
To pre-register you can call 709-634-5111 or email communications@qalipu.ca before deadline of November 19th at 12:00pm. You must state your name and phone number for your pre-registration in your email or in the event you are sent to telephone voicemail.
The ceremony venue requires PROOF OF VACCINATION to be presented upon entry.
